Hello, 1901 census Annie Duel lived on Strand Street. She had a school there which employed two other teachers and she was the School's Principal.Could someone please tell me how I could get more information as I would like to get a photo of where she lived for a book I am writing about her family. Regards Frances

Hello everyone, I was just wondering, after the news that Pfizers is going to pull out of Sandwich, what do you think will hapen to the town. After all when Pfizers came in, over the years they have more or less taken over the town buying up a large proportion of the houses, and in so doing helped push up the market. Will Sandwich die a death again. As someone on this site has mentioned, already the shops all seem to be empty on the run up to the the Barbican. What do you think. Liz

I went to visit mother in Minster last week and on Wednesday we had a visit to Sandwich. Its been 4 or 5 years since my last visit, but the sun was shining and the town looked great! Parked in the cattle market and had a good look around(forgot about early closing of course!) The Mermaids Locker looks fab and there were flowers everywhere. Looked down the quayside as well which was nice. A lot of empty shops between the chocolate box and the toll bridge and the garages behind the butchers where dad parked are now houses. More bizzarely, the public toilets next to the Sandwich arms is now an ice cream parlour!!!! Seriously, the town looked great and it was a pleasure to go back. Next time we are going to try some local pubs! Simon

Hi Me again i wonder if anybody may be able to help me. in the 1901 Census my gr gr granduncle lived at what i think is Wesleyan Chapel, Adams House (i am sure the name of the house is incorrect as it is barley legible) as with a number of other elderly people, some of which are related, however there are a number of HEADS of the house. I wondered if anybody could tell me if this was possible a place where the parish were able to assist the elderly, or if not, how would these people come to be together, as such. The gaes of the occupants range from 66 to 84. any help would be fantastic, thanks Nicki

| We had a good time last year visiting the properties in Sandwich during the heritage open days, we are visiting again this sept with some friends and look forward to showing them around. Thanks for making the heritage open days map available for download. Its a pity the Salutation doesn't take part.
