I used to live in Sandwich, St Georges Rd, many years ago (early 1950s), and went to the local primary school when Mr Sage was headmaster and Mr Chesterfield, Mr Ford and Mr Petit were teachers and then went Sir Roger Manwoods. My particular friends that I remember were Roger Haywood, Argent Carney (Chase?), John Gifford, the Bettsworth family, Trevor Reynolds and many others. Any news of any of these people would be most welcome. Thank you.

I spent a day in Sandwich last year - had been keen to visit but had never got there before. A day wasn't enough, so I'm hoping to get back for a longer stay next year.As a committed Anglophile I found your site while surfing for English sites. I have Kent many times and stayed with friends in the area. Now that I'm semi-retired, I'm putting my knowledge of English village life to good use (I hope!) in a series of cozy murder mysteries that I've had published. Hope to be back soon. Best wishes to all, Brian

I found this site to be very interesting.I lived in Sandwich from the age of 2 - 5. I must have attended my first class in Sandwich School in about 1964. I cannot remember it is so long ago. We then moved to Newcastle and then to South Africa. I lived with my British father Doug Scammell and my German Mother REnate Scammell (that is my maiden name). I have a brother Ian who was a little younger than me. We lived in Poulders Gardens and I know that my mother would love to get into contact with old friends of hers. Check her message - Renate Scammell. Use my E Mail address. I cannot remember any of my friends. All I remember are my friends from Newcastle because I was older. If you remember our family, let us know!!!
