Red Cow
See the Red Cow is up "for sale".
Big sign outside the pub advertising the lease for sale.
Be interesting to see if anyone buys it and if not what wil happen to the building?

Looks like Open Sandwich is punishing me for my wickedness in playing a very old Sandwich joke on you. Would not let me post. So have started new line
Oh dear dear, you folks will never probably never talk to me again.
The Red Cow joke is a very old one that my Granty was always playing on me.
The answer is its coming down for milking. If its any consolation my Mum got me every time and she was always doing it right up until she went poorly.
Sorreeeeeeeeeee
Luv Liz

Hi all
I am wondering if there could be any relatives of the Halliday family who were living in Ash by Sandwich and were involved in the milling industr there , in the early 1800's .Jonathan and Elizabeth Halliday ( spelling varies ) had George born C 1806 . He came to Australia in the 1830's to be a miller at the new town of Port Macquarie( convicts employed in the building up of the town ) George died here in 1888 -age was 82 years.
Known to have brothers Isaac,Jonathan and William .On the 1851 C. Elizabeth is given as being born in Ash ( c.1782 )& living at Guilton .She died in 1859 .
I would love to hear from possible connections.
Thankyou
Erla

Hi
Thank you for a very interesting visit to your windwill / Flower show
Further to my enquiry about a chain as in measurement.
Here is the info from The Kings English Dictionary cica 1930
5 1/2 yards = 1 pole ,rod or perch
4 poles = 1 chain
10 chains = 1 furlong
8 furlongs = 1 mile
Surveyors measure
7.92 inches = 1 link
100 links = 1 chain
80 chains = 1 mile
10 square chains = 1 acre
Bye
Chris

I am looking for any information regarding Solomon Hougham, born 1674 and married Susanna Neale. He died in 1740. He had 2 sons - Richard and Solomon. Solomon (son) was deported to Virginia.
Does anyone have any information? I am planning a trip to UK the end of September and plan to visit this area.
