Having not seen an english winter for twenty six years,i couldn't resist the temptation to go back and have a real xmas with family.I will have the best of both worlds this year as christmas day will be spent in Perth's warm climate and then i fly out xmas night to arrive in the UK at 10.30am Boxing day, and be at my parents by lunch time for the roast dinner. Sandwich will be visited quite a few times as i can't resist the old place (mostly the pubs),i will be looking out for any familiar faces so expect a tap on the shoulder. Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New Year

| I believe my great-great grandfather, James Marsh was born in Sandwich in 1862, and lived at this address: Salt Pans, Stonar. The family then later moved to the Isle of Sheppey, and later to the Isle of Grain, where most of my family still reside. If anyone knows anything about the Marsh family in Stonar please do get in touch. Many thanks.

I have been looking into my geneology and am looking for any information on the Solomon Hougham family that dates back even before the 1600 in Sandwich. My grandmother was a Hougham and am interested in learning as much as I can. Thanks Cindy Angelo pekoe@ev1.net

We spent several weeks in Sandwich riding busses to places in the area. We found the staff at the Visitor Center very helpful on many occasions and relied on them to answer all sorts of questions. The current location is near the bus stop and was extremely convienent for us to stop in if we needed help. The library staff were also helpful on several questions. There are two maps of the town walk the red Historic Town Trail was the better explained but the booklet Sandwich Ancient Town and Cinque Port was a must have to get the most from walking the town the detail on some of the places was wonderful even though we could not observe it personally. The streets were well marked and easy to find on the maps the Historic Town Trail markers were in good condition and easy to spot. We experienced no difficulty in getting around and spend many mornings or afternoons just walking around the town. Even after walking around the town a dozen times we always seemed to find something new. We found everyone to be friendly and often asked questions while out walking while some were not sure on a subject we often received additional information on the town that was interesting. Our only suggestion would be better information on other publications about the town not available in the visitor center and a more prominant place to put up information on the Historical Society we would have liked to attend a meeting while there. In 1972-1973 I stayed in the hoilday home of the Box-Grainger family in Sandwich.Christopher Box-Grainger Jnr was still at Tonbridge School Manor House abd His best friend was Christopher Cowdrey son of the late Sir Colin Cowdrey Kent and England. The Cowdrey family had a hoilday house in Sandwich Bay.On one occassion playing cricket with The English Cricket Society against Sandwich on the village oval Mrs Jane Box-Grainger sister Susan Hampshire the aclaimed British actriss came to watch young Christopher Box-Grainger her nephew play in the cricket match. It would be very enjoyable to hear from a member of the Box-Grainger family after almost 25 years and if any persons could assist I would be very thank-ful for there assistance. My e-mail address is:garyboothhansen@yahoo.com Thank-you.
